The people there were great at explaining what tests i needed and it is a shame they are thinking of closing the walking in centre .

I have generally had a very mixed experience at this surgery, especially as far as the receptionists are concerned (sometimes very helpful, at others, downright obstructive). With regard to the doctors, it has been equally mixed. One or two barely look up from their computer screens, they can be patronising, and don't listen. Others, however, have been much better than this. At my most recent appointment, I had a doctor who listened, discussed my care with me as if I were an intelligent human being, and made me feel supported. Excellent. All appointments should be like this! The nurses are usually very pleasant, but last time I had a blood test, three different nurses, each in a different room, were loudly discussing/complaining about a patient i.e. by shouting to each other in their respective rooms! Not very professional, especially as a few of us were waiting outside. It's as if we didn't matter at all. In general terms, I would say that there are some very good aspects to this practice, but that others really let it down. Finally, there really ought to be a play area for children - there's lots of unused space in the general waiting room, and I feel sorry for parents of toddlers who are trying to keep them entertained during a long wait.

My personal experience to date has been good. I've never had any problems with the reception staff either in person or over the telephone. They have always been very helpful and professional. On the downside it is not easy to get an appointment to see a doctor without having to wait too long an acceptable timeframe. Luckily I do not need to see a doctor regularly but I can see this being a problem for some patients. The other downside is that there is a very high turnover of doctors; you will rarely get to see the same doctor more than a couple of times before they have departed for pastures new. This is the problem with huge privately run surgeries, it is run as a business and in doing so you lose that personal touch and it is not a family doctor anymore. You become a number with a blank interface. I work in primary care for a singlehanded GP and we know most of our patients and hence their problems/issues and can therefore deliver first rate quick care and respond to their needs without bureaucratic paper pushing policies to delay everything.

I use this walk in centre when my children suddenly fall ill and I know from experience that I will not get a doctors appointment at my surgery on that day. I try to arrive early as the system is on a first come first serve basis which is totally fair. The staff are excellent and we have always received good advice and the correct diagnosis. This service is irreplaceable in a busy town.

Although being a patient of the walk in centre I find it quite annoying at trying to get an appointment with them, but I do also understand what pressure they are under, My last visit to the centre was due to me hurting my arm on a fall, although I had been to two hospitals 4 times Basildon and Orsett then being told it was a sprain and to keep moving it, then ending up going back to the hospital for the 4th time only to be told that they did not know why I was in pain still and that I should go see my doctor, I did feel that they thought that I was making up this pain. I am so glad I did go to the doctors even though it was 4 weeks down the line, the doctor at the clinic sent me straight for another X-ray WHERE the pain was and not where they thought I might of damaged it, I went the next day for the x-ray and was sent straight from X-ray to Basildon as I had in fact fractured my arm, So thank you to the doctor who listened to me and what I had to say. I have always been pleased with the doctors at the centre when I have attended and felt I have always been listened to, not ushered out, they take time to discuss your condition and are happy to answer any questions I put to them.
